Shinsen is the seventh planet in the Barias System and is a Class L world. ===Details=== The Gas-Giant Shinsen has axial tilt of 12.6', is 8.1 AUs away from its parent star, and has a gravity of 2.3 G. Shinsen is an oblate spheroid, i.e. it is flattened at the poles and bulging at the equator; its equatorial and polar diameters vary by almost 10%. This is the result of its rapid rotation and fluid state. Other gas planets are also oblate, but to a lesser degree. Shinsen is the only one of the Barias System's planets that is less dense than water, with an average specific density of 0.69. This is a mean value; Shinsen's upper atmosphere is less dense and its core is considerably more dense than water. Shinsen's interior is similar to Maraba's, having a rocky core at the center, a liquid metallic hydrogen layer above that, and a molecular hydrogen layer above that. Traces of various ices are also present. Shinsen has a very hot interior, reaching 15,000 Kelvin at the core, and it radiates more energy into space than it receives from Bari. Most of the extra energy is generated by the slow gravitational compression. ===History=== For millennia since space travel was first achieved by the Burhdirans in the Barias System, Shinsen was one of the many objects of curiosity. Lying, at the time, at the percieved edge of their solar system (in the early eras of space travel the Burhdirans did not know of worlds beyond Shinsen in their system) it was seen as the edge of creation. In 33,566 AC an expedition by Burhdirans to Shinsen gave the first contact with the species of beings known as the Zanharain, a race of purportedly mythological entities composed purely of fire from Burhdiran mythology that served the great Old God Bari in his battle against the Hungerer. The Burhdirans made peaceful contact with the Zanharain and through them learned much of their place within the cosmos, and a more detailed history of not only Bari but of the creator of the Zanharain as well, a disciple of Bari known as Obari. The Zanharain have since that time requested to be left alone on Shinsen, and the Burhdiran people have obliged, allocating that Shinsen is a protected world and registered recently under the protected worlds act by the Covenant of Allied Systems for prevention against natural resource farming and intrusion. ===Satellites=== Shinsen has two satellites, Oshira and Oshima. Both moons are 1/50th the size of Shinsen and are close to the extremely hot world and have strong volcanic and tectonically active surfaces and thin atmospheres consisting of methane, sulphur and hydrogen.
