A half-Romulan-- his father being noted physicist Galathil Radaiin of Romulus, and his mother one of the many human Eternals; killed during Vire's attack-- he has a fairly distinct appearance, with slightly pointed ears, black hair, and an unusual cast to his skin. He prefers dark blue or black clothes, and is rarely seen without his enchanted gloves-- and datapad, with which he is constantly checking over spells he hasn't ''quite'' gotten down. Taev is good friends with Epsilon [[Sean]] and [[Weapon]], and the three of them form the core members of "The Chain Gang," younger Eternals who try to take life in Eternal City less seriously than their elders, while still being ready to fight back if they're ever needed. A trained mage, Taev prefers to use "utility" spells to help out those in the city that have not developed as many useful combat skills. He is helpful and friendly, though like many youths desires recognition and appreciation for his actions, and wants people to like him. This goes doubly for his female friends, such as [[Yume]] and [[Amondi Carwen]]; and he often tries too hard to win their approval. |align="right"| http://sirwayne.taikaiwiki.com/wiki/taev.png |} === History === As a young Eternal, Taev has a rather short history. He was killed by [[The Shapeshifter]] in ED 3526, but brought back immediately afterward by [[Yume]], who defeated the Void abomination. He enrolled in the Conservatory of Magic as a young adult-- he was frequently rejected as a teenager-- and there met [[Weapon]], created by some of the greatest Eternal magicians and scientists. Weapon introduced him to his friend [[Sean]], and the three young Eternals were friends from that point onward, volunteering for the rare field mission whenever life in Eternal City got too boring. In ED 3767 the three of them volunteered to escort a capture operation against Gazed Narfal, a [[Vagrants|Vagrant]], with [[Amondi Carwen]] and Captain Eternal, who had been assigned to participate undercover in his fighting competition. Taev assisted in the battle against Narfal and his ally, the Ethergaunt Matala-Kexeu, but had little to offer against those powerful foes. Wanting to become more useful, he decided to try to put his natural strength to use, and asked Amondi to train him in grappling and fighting while he was waiting on her bonded weapon to be reforged; and the Muse of Battle agreed. With Amondi's longsuffering dedication and after a great deal of time, Taev passed his Gathering examination into the [[Knights Arcana]]-- but was intensely frustrated to learn that he had not been the chosen candidate; he had only been awarded the position because his father was pushing for it. The Grandmaster pointed out that if he was truly insistent on achieving membership fairly, then he could voluntarily reapply at the next Gathering. Taev did so and after three more attempts was finally admitted on his own merits... much to the chagrin of his peers, who didn't really take their status as members particularly seriously. When [[Phaetheon]] attacked Eternal City in ED 4319, Taev was killed again trying to fight him; but was resurrected by [[Lenna Leamonde]]. He was awarded the Soulfire Star (an Eternal award for being killed in action in the line of duty and being raised); this is his only decoration, a source of amusement to his friends, who joke that his one major skill is being killed but not staying dead. Wanting to help [[Yume]], he cooperated with [[AEGIS]] and its leader [[Adrien Dalen]] to get information on [[Sasurai]]'s tournament in that same cycle. === Skills & Abilities === As a half-Romulan, Taev is substantially stronger than the typical human-- though not nearly as physically strong as a well-trained ki-powered fighter-- and uses that power in conjunction with his magical training to form a "style" he has called simply "Arcane Grappling." Taev uses spells on himself to increase his strength, speed, and defenses, and then attempts to disable the enemy with slams, throws, and holds, channeling offensive spells into these attacks to increase their damage. As a pupil of Tau Prime Diandra, Taev prefers elemental magic; but he is skilled with a variety of support and utility spells, placing more emphasis on them than most Eternals, who value either destructive magic for war, or conjuration magic for use in the City. Taev is one of the few Eternals who has learned the art of Counterspelling-- cancelling magical energy by using the same sort, or Antimagic-- but he is not powerful enough to defeat most true magic-users. Taev has two magical items that increase his combat abilities. One a pair of black armored gloves, both with an electric blue "Xi" rune on the back. These gloves magically pass through planar barriers and dimensions, allowing him to grapple even with teleporting foes and ghosts. They provide protection against dimensional spells and effects, but typically he must use magic to boost his defenses if he fights enemies that are skilled with those types of attacks; the gloves aren't a perfect defense. The other item of note is his jacket, a Romulan Special Forces-patterned armored jacket with adamantine woven into the sleeves and front. While normally worn loose, if he locks the chains on the front together, it forms a solid magical barrier of force that extends several inches around his body. While hardly an impenetrable defense, they slow and weaken most physical attacks enough for him to survive against enemies more powerful than he is-- which are many. === Quirks and Personality === Taev speaks casually, though politely to those he respects and admires. He has been studying with Lenna and others in the academy long enough that he drops the occasional vulgarity or latest slang, but for the most part he speaks in a natural, unremarkable language. He is an expert in a variety of languages-- part of his Mage training-- and can use magic to quickly learn others, or to communicate telepathically. Taev is young, and thus impressionable; frequently awed by those of exceptional power or skill; and becoming nervous and flustered easily if caught off-guard. He wants badly to be liked and felt needed, and mentally rehearses to guess the best way to make another party feel good-- and thus respond well to him. He has a strong sense of honor and strives to repay his debts, and do good to those who deserve it-- and he's gradually learning to do so even to those who don't.
