Air: My pure heart for you

San: SEQUEL!! SEQUEL!!

- - - - - - - - - -

Several of the former participants had already left by the time Setzer approached Yume. He was still very weak as the bulk of his life energy had been drained by using so many of his cards. Indeed he found standing to be quite difficult, and walking the few feet to where Yume stood caused him considerable pain.

“In your current state your request would be all too obvious”, Yume said warmly and placed her finger over his lips to prevent him from speaking the words. As she did so a gentle breeze seemed to pass through his entire body, returning his strength to what it had been before the tournament. “It would have been unfair for me to expect you to use up your request in simply returning yourself to the state you came here in. So now, what do you wish for? Should I create another adventure for you?”

“There’s no need” the gambler smiled, “I think I’m ready to take up the pen myself. And I think I know where the first chapter will be set.” He closed his eyes and breathed deeply. Memoria no longer carried the musty odour of the run-down opera house for him, rather it was the sweet fragrance of grass. It reminded him of the fresh dampness of morning dew on the fields when he had travelled with Terra and the others so long ago. “All I ask for is something to remind me that the past two weeks were not simply a dream.”

At that, Yume slowly drew her sword. Some of the other warriors reflexively reached for the hilts of their own weapons. After the days of continuous combat their instincts were still overly keen. They quickly went about their business once more though, as the young goddess pointed the blade upward and sliced off a lock of her hair before returning it to its sheath. She handed the lock of hair to Setzer who bowed slightly and turned to leave without another word between them.

As he vanished through the portal into his own world, Saint walked over and stood beside Yume.

“It’s a strange thing” her guardian said, “but I would swear that his voice was familiar”

She remembered the words that Setzer had spoken to her at the vision of the opera, ‘I wanted to join the performance again, in the hope that after the show was over I would be able to pen an opera in which every page was not the same. I can no longer go on living my life for myself alone’. It was then that she noticed something tucked into the obi at her waist. She drew it out and saw that it was the ace of hearts. Up until that point she had not realised the full extent of the change that had occurred in Setzer during the tournament. For she knew that if she were to ever use the card, it would mean the death of the gambler.

“I remember now” Saint said in surprise, “It was in the Crystal Realm, just before I faced the Shapeshifter. I heard a voice in my mind, but at the time I thought it was just a trick of the Void.”

With a smile Yume gently tucked the card back into her obi as Saint continued, “He said, ‘if you fall, I will protect her’”.

Two weeks later

The owner of the opera house reclined in his office chair. He stared at the ceiling so as to keep his eyes as far away from the papers in his hands as possible, the reason being that the documents were written almost entirely in red ink. Suddenly the double doors to his office were flung open and a cloaked figure came striding in, his silvery hair billowing over his shoulders. The owner sat bolt upright as the man dropped a heavy bag of gold onto the table.

“There is a small business proposition I would like to discuss with you”, Setzer smiled.

OOC: And so ends Setzer’s little tale. I’ll post the final entry for The Namer a little later.

Oh, and for those of you with an interest in such things, I'll be posting the first details on Rurouni Taikai 2 at Random Insanity later on tonight.

He deals the cards as a meditation,
And those he plays never suspect.
He doesn't play for the money he wins,
He doesn't play for respect.

He deals the cards to find the answer,
The sacred geometry of chance.
The hidden law of a probable outcome,
The numbers lead a dance.

The Main Moogle

Mog grabbed a drink from the table and poured some in his mouth. "Yikes, it's hot!" He glanced over and saw Umaro bounding over.
"We won!" the sasquatch bellowed, waving his arms in the air. "Ooh, food!" Umaro started to stuff his face. Mog gave a hearty laugh and slapped him on the back.
"You did good, Umaro. Just wait 'til we get home; I'll cook you more food than you know what to do with. Kupo!" The little Moogle finished his drink and set it down. "I'm gonna go talk to Yume. See ya around." He left Umaro to finish his meal and went to find Yume. On his way he spotted Locke. "Hey, party at my place when we get home! Invite Celes and the others, kupo!" The treasure hunter flashed him a smile and gave him a thumbs up. Mog found Yume surrounded by a small group of other contestants. He made his way through them and up to the the goddess. She turned and looked down at him. "Hey, Yume, it's been a blast. You sure know how to throw a wild party. Kupo!"
She gave him a big smile. "Is there any sort of favor I can do for you, brave little Moogle?"
Mog grinned and extended his hand. "May I have this dance?"

Indeed it has been a blast. Congrats to Baka and everyone else for a job well done.

Goddess of Barrels

Okay, so this is probably a bunch of corny, stupid crap, but it's the best I could do. Bear with me, please....

--------------------------

"However, I would give each of you a small favour, one that may help you make your own dreams come true. Approach now, and state your desire. I shall grant it if I can, and then I shall whisk you back to your reality."

Yume's words echoed in Lemina's mind as though they were distant bells, chiming in the back of her conciousness. She could only stare in shock as the others stepped forward to claim their prizes. Her body was still, but her mind was racing.

What....what can I possibly ask for? My dreams? I don't know if I have any, by this point. I....I've learned so much I didn't want to know in this place. I....

Up to this point, until I entered this tournament, I was unaware of the person I really was. I was unaware of the person I allowed myself to become. I hurt so many people, emotionally. If I could just....make it all right....

But....I can't. There's no way I can turn back time and erase what I did. Maybe Yume could, but she won't. And she's right not to....I wouldn't want her to. Because....

Because the person I am today, the person I was in the past, is the same person that helped to defeat Zophar and now save the world from the Void. If I had been a kinder, gentler Lemina, I might not have met Hiro. I might not have made the rash bet with Ramus that made me so desperate to take this chance and risk my life in this tournament. And so, I would not have been able to lend my support in holding back destruction here. Maybe I didn't contribute all that much. But I know I helped, and that's what matters.

Yes....that's all that matters. I can be proud of myself, knowing that despite my shortcomings, I was able to come through when I was needed the most. Maybe I haven't been the nicest person to the people of my world, but I helped save it, and, well, they're pretty much stuck with me. If there's one thing I've learned during all this, it's that you have to fight for what matters, no matter what kind of person you are or what you or anyone else thinks of you.

I was wrong when I thought that I didn’t get anything from this. I have gotten something. I know now what kind of person I was, and while it hurt knowing, I think I grew up a little. Seeing it that way will do that to you, I guess. I may not have technically “won”, but I think we all won this thing, really. We’ve all gotten something important out of it. Me, I learned something very important, and I won’t waste it!

....

Well, this is all nice and sappy, but it still doesn’t put me any closer to deciding what to ask for! Yume was right before about not wanting Vane’s prosperity on a silver platter....I think I’d appreciate more if I worked for it. But....Ramus. That stupid bet. It all keeps coming back to that stupid, STUPID bet!

It’s true I treated him shabbily in the past. But....giving up my life is not going to make things all right. I’d never be happy. And chances are, neither would he. He thinks he loves me, but....how long can you love someone who can never love you? I know I’ll never be able to love him. I can’t explain it in words....I can’t give a reason. I just know it, deep down in my heart. He’s not the one for me. And I’m....I’m not the one for him. I’d only hurt him by marrying him, I realize that now. Since I can never love him, I’d be miserable. And that would make him miserable. So I think it’d be better for me to make him aware of that now, before we spend years that we can’t take back together, and wind up hating each other for it.

Besides....to just give up like that would go against everything I’ve learned here. I’ve fought so hard for this world’s survival....isn’t it time that I fought for myself as well? Dreams....all this happened for want of a dream. My dream....is to restore Vane to what it was, make it better than what it was. And I want to do it on my own. But I can’t....not the way things are now. I’m trapped by that bet. The truth is....I don’t know if I can get that much money on my own in time. Maybe ever. I....I just want to win that bet! I want to be free! Money can’t buy happiness, I know that much, but it’s the only thing that can buy my freedom. The freedom to live my life and restore Vane my own way, to be able to seek happiness in my own time.

I could ask Yume for the money to do it. Just enough to win the bet. But....could I live with myself, knowing I didn’t earn it? I didn’t make the money on my own, I....

....

....

....

But....

I did. Yeah....YEAH! I DID! Not just by saving the world, but by going through all the stress and pain and irritation I’ve gone through this past week! I battled monsters, got enchanted by a materia of love and humiliated myself, I got my barrel smashed, beaten up, nearly frozen, almost stomped on, confronted by painful memories, and fought horrible Void beasts. And all of it....for FREE! I put in all those hours, so much effort, took so many hits and humiliations, and for what? Nada! Nothing! Zero! Zip! Zilch! And on top of that, I was TRICKED into being here! Ooooh! If I ever deserved to be paid for anything, it’s this! No one puts one over on Lemina Ausa, beautiful sorcery genius, and gets off easy! GIMME THAT MONEY!

A determined look on her face, Lemina stepped up to the goddess that had gotten them all into this.

“Have you made your decision?” Yume inquired.

“Yes, I have,” Lemina replied. “I want....3.3 million silver.”

All the remaining contestants, plus Yume and Saint, promptly facefaulted.

“Lemina,” Yume began carefully, “is this for Vane? Because I thought....”

“No! It isn’t!” Lemina answered quickly. “Not exactly. It’s for....” She hesitated, not sure what to say to convince her.

“Well?”

“It’s for me,” Lemina replied finally. “To settle a bet....a bet that’s holding me back from achieving my dreams. I can never be free if I don’t win it....because to lose, is to give my life and freedom up, forever. I’ve fought too hard to survive, to save the world, to just give up. But without getting the money here, I....there’s nothing more I can do on my own! I’ve been working so hard for so long without becoming a single cent richer. I can’t change people’s hearts to make them support my dream....but I can change my future, and make fulfilling my dream a possibility.

“I know it’s pathetic, Lady Yume. I know it’s selfish. I know it’s probably too much to ask. But I just....I....” Lemina trailed off, her voice cracking slightly with pain and desperation. “Please....I don’t want to turn back time, to erase what I did. If I did that, I couldn’t have learned so much here, helped to save the world. Maybe what I did isn’t so great, in the grand scheme of things, but....I’ve worked hard, and I --”

“Enough.” Yume’s voice was stern, yet there was a note of kindness held within it. “You need not explain further, Lemina....I can see clearly the struggle within you, the things you are trying to express.” She closed her eyes for a moment, as if deep in thought. Then she opened them, and spoke once more.

“Your wish....is granted. Money is but an object, and I cannot say that you haven’t earned it. Quite the contrary. But I will only give you enough to win this....bet, and the rest you must earn on your own. Restoring Vane will have to be through your own hands. As I said before....I cannot change the hearts of the people to make them support you. That you must do yourself, and it will harder to win that than any amount of money.”

“I understand.” Lemina smiled shakily. “Thank you. This means so much to me. I....”

“No, Lemina....thank you.” Yume smiled back at her and lifted her hand. “Now, to return you to....”

“Wait!” Lemina exclaimed. “Not yet....I want to say goodbye to Mia first.”

“....very well.”

“Oh, thank you!” Lemina turned and ran over to where Mia stood.

“Mia!”

The legendary Guildmistress turned. “Yes, Lemina?”

“Mia, I....” The words froze in Lemina’s throat, wrapped in a painful lump she hadn’t even been aware was there. All of a sudden, she could feel tears pricking at her eyes. Swallowing hard, she forced herself to speak.

“This....this is....goodbye, I guess,” she began hesitantly, then mentally kicked herself. “Oh! It’s just like I told Hiro....I’m so mega-bad with goodbyes!” A look of anguish filled her green eyes as she stared at her ancestor. “There’s so much I want to say, Mia....I want to tell you how much it meant to me, to meet you and talk to, but I can’t find the right words to express the way I feel....I never can.” Lemina blinked furiously so that the tears filling her eyes wouldn’t spill out and embarrass her further. “Mia, I....I....thank you. So much. For everything. And please....please don’t worry about Vane. You were a wonderful leader....I want you to believe that. And even if I can never truly live up to what you were, I’ll try my very best anyway. I’m going to do what I can for Vane, so that everything I’ve learned here, from you and everyone else, won’t be in....well....vain! Thank you, Mia....thank you so much. You’ve inspired me and helped me more than you’ll ever know, than I can possibly put in words. I’ll never forget this....never.”

“Lemina! Are you ready to go?” Yume called.

“Oh! Oh, I’ll be right there!” Lemina shouted. Turning back to Mia, she smiled tearfully. “Thank you again, Mia....and goodbye.” Leaning forward, she gave her a quick hug(NOT like the Love Materia-induced one, you perverts! ), then ran off to where Yume stood waiting.

“I....I’m ready.” Lemina drew a shaky breath to try and calm herself. “I’m ready.”

WANZER!

And then, Yume turned to Driscoll.

"And what do you want? You who saved the universe, but cannot save yourself."

"Nothing. Just take me home."

"Nothing, Commander?"

"Does a soldier expect a paycheck when he gets home from a balttle? No, if I get a reward, it will be a long way away. My battle isn't ever yet."

And with that, Driscoll saluted, turned and walked away, slowly fading from the reality.

-----

And that's the last you'll ever see of Driscoll. Next tournament, I'll be joining up as a sidekick. Well, it kinda fits the character...

Zelda - FFOS6

Zelda looked around at the remaining contestants. So many...and from so many worlds...Its almost mind-boggling... The princess brushed her hand along her belt, and felt the moogle doll she had picked up. Thanks Julius...wherever you are...You shall not be forgotten....Hero.

The princess walked slowly up to Yume. "Princess of Destiny, You found yourself here long after the rest had been brought, yet you still fought valiantly. The things you saw within Memoria were all things deeply engraned within your memory, whether you actually experienced them in this lifetime or one of the past. You saved many lives, and tried to rally everyone together against the void, even though your efforts were thwarted. Zelda, What is your wish?"

The princess stood, looking at the contestants from all the worlds. "Well...I suppose being able to see all these wonderful worlds for myself is just a bit much to ask?"

Yume looked at her sadly, "Yes princess, I am sorry, but that would disrupt timelines in many universes, possibly causing catostrophic events throughout the multiverse..."

Zelda looked around for a little while, trying to come up with something else to wish for. "Well...can I keep the things I found here? The outfit and the doll? I do not wish to forget the things that took place here, and they could serve as rememberances..."

Yume smiled at the princess. "Yes warrior, you may keep Julius' doll, and your outfit, Will you be going now?"

Zelda looked around, and saw all the contestants, and the remaining snack table. "No Yume...I believe I shall stay a little longer."
"As you wish princess.." the goddess said as Zelda turned and walked over to join Locke at the snack table.

The Second Gunman

And now... my very own version of Chibi Theatre. Apologies if I miss the point of it, but it seems to me to be a way of compiling all the sillyness into one chibi-sized package.

---

"Yahhhh!!! Plushie p0w@r!" Chibi-Zelda yelled, wildly waving Chibi-Mog about.

"Yeeek!" Yells Chibi-Mog, being wildly waved about, "Let me go, kupo! I'm not your plushie, kupo! Umaro! Help me, you big kupo!"

"FUNGAHH! CHIBI BLIZZARD!"

"Eeek! My barrel! It's all mega-icy!" Yells Chibi-Lemina.

Chibi-Edge just grins and hides in a cardboard box, but is blown into the air by an exploding oil drum behind him, and lands squarely, crotch-first, on Chibi-Locke's foot.

On top of a crystal formation, Chibi-Ito blows smoke off the barrel of Chibi-Setzer's PSG-1 and hands it back to him. Chibi-Ito then dives headfirst into a large cake.

Meanwhile, Chibi-Driscoll, Chibi-Rubicante, and Chibi-Fighter (How'd he get here again?) Are having a discussion.
Chibi-Fighter: I like swords.
Chibi-Driscoll: I like grenades.
Chibi-Rubicante: I like fire.
Chibi-Driscoll: I also like WANZERS!

The Eternal Dream - Forever You

-- tenken’s recommended listening -
Ending theme (Final Fantasy X)
Melodies of Life (Final Fantasy IX)
Again (Vision of Escaflowne OST3)

The tournament was over at last. Zeal had heard Yume’s final speech, and of her decision to grant a small favor to each participant for their valiant effort. Some had already made their wishes and been whisked away to the multitude of dimensions and star systems that they represented. Some were becoming emotional and hugging each other, sad that the bonds of friendship they had made would not be able to be kept up. After all, even the strongest caring could not surpass time and dimension, could it?

I suppose I’ll miss some of these good folk Zeal thought, reminiscing on the tournament as a whole. The bravery of Commander Driscoll…Rubicant, filled with honor…Slash the swordsman, ever in search of perfection…Koren the Crimson Wizard, taking command of his own fate…Lemina Ausa, who clung tightly to her dream….Chaos, who could not let go of the darkness….all of them and more had left their impressions on Zeal’s heart; impressions she would always remember. Zeal sniffed and rubbed her eyes, hoping no one noticed.

“It’s difficult to see them all go, isn’t it?” said a familiar voice from behind. Zeal quickly composed herself and turned to see Saint standing behind her, once again having taken the stealth approach. “Yes…life is full of such, Zeal. Friendships made, no attention paid to parting. But somewhere in the mind, everyone knows that one day, even those closest to them will be separated from them. It’s the sad reality….”

“Yeah…” Zeal’s voice trailed off into low murmur of the conversations going on around them. “I didn’t even notice until now what this unlikely group had come to mean to me. Even if I didn’t know them personally, I could always recognize them on the battlefield. The yeti, the big turtle, the ninja; I can’t believe that in only a week’s time, it became normal for me to see them all. And yet, somewhere along the line….” She sniffed again, rubbing her eyes with the hem of her sleeve. Must be those…darn seasonal allergies again…that’s it! “I never got to apologize to that green-haired girl for messing up her robot a few days ago, when the Void was in my mind-“

“Have you decided what your desire shall be?” Saint took a bite of his soft pretzel and waited for a reply.

“Well…I don’t know…I mean…” Zeal hadn’t really thought about it. In and of itself, the tournament had been its own reward for her.

“You needn’t rush yourself” Saint replied, dismissing himself once again to the banquet table. “Thoughtful consideration gives way to the higher understanding.”

--------------------

Zeal had waited, and more contestants had left, back to their own realities. The ones that were still there were not in line to make requests of Yume, but still enjoying each others’ fellowship for as long as they could. She wished she could too, but the longer she stayed, the more it seemed to weigh down her heart. It was the last goodbye for everyone….

Weaving her way through the now-navigable crowd, she finally caught sight of Yume standing near the table, finishing a muffin.

“You actually eat food?” Zeal queried as she approached the young goddess.

“Well, I don’t need to, but it tastes good, just as you have foods you like.” Yume seemed to be as calm as she had always been, unperturbed by the idea that the same group would probably never be together again. “Have you come seeking the return to your own time and place?”

“I have.” Zeal stated flatly as she lead the way to another one of Memoria’s starlit balconies, away from the larger group. “Even for one such as I, who has learned to hold emotion inside at times for the betterment of the people, the fact that this is the end of all of this saddens me. What do you feel, Lady Yume?”

“I feel….a bit sad also. But if I truly desired it, I could see any of them at my whim. And, no doubt, I will be able to see them in my thoughts. But enough of that…what is it I can do for you before you leave, Zeal? Certainly one of strong enough mind to cast out the Void has something small in their hearts that they desire. For a certainty, you wish your two children by your side again, yes?”

“I saw them, in my mind…” Zeal began. “When I did, I was so surprised and shocked, but it was because of their help and their strength that I was able to finally overcome the darkness. But also, when they were there, even in spirit, I could feel that they were alright. They still live, somewhere…”

“That is true, Queen” Yume said. “Janus searches layer after layer of time and space to find his sister. Someday, he may come your way again. Schala…it is difficult to know for sure. She lies in a difficult-to-pinpoint area outside of space-time. But they are alive.”

“Thank you Yume, but were you to bring them back, especially Schala, the timestream of my world may be disrupted. I and my children made an indelible impact on history, or so I heard.”

“So you know….” Yume bowed her head. “I’m sorry Zeal. Even though I could grant your wish…you yourself know that both are too intricately tied within the timestream to be ripped from it as such. If there’s anything else I can do for you, you have but to ask.”

“Well, actually…” a smile crossed Zeal’s face “I’ve heard of a mighty spell, the Giga-Graviton….” Yume shot her a knowing glance.

“And just what would you do with another spell of mass destruction? Plan to make a habit of fighting epic battles?” She tapped her foot in a steady beat, the rhythm betraying a smile in an otherwise solemn setting.

“I’m just kidding, of course…” Zeal managed a laugh, even as she could feel the lump in her throat.

“Yume…I never got to tell you this before, but I care about you. Maybe in some way you remind me of Schala when she was a young girl; always adroit and precocious, yet with a soft and gentle manner about her, and a heart that cared about people. If you didn’t already know, the kingdom of which I was queen was an advanced civilization who tried to reach great Enlightenment through dreams, visions, magic, and various other methods. Maybe that also is what struck a chord with me. A girl whose name means ‘dream’, yet who has no dream of her own…if I could have one wish, I want you to have a dream. A dream grand and wonderful, beyond the confines of yourself. I think that is why so many cultures, including my own, place so much importance on dreams. Even if one understands themselves completely, a dream is a venture into the unknown, the recesses of their mind or the inspiration of supernatural forces. A dream is more than our human existence. To experience the wonder dreams can bring is something I wish for you, Yume. I want you to have a dream….”

“I…I don’t know if I can…with the acceptance of my full power…” Yume grasped for words, surprised that someone would want to use their wish to give something to her; someone who seemingly had everything.

“And yet, also, be it my wish or not” Zeal began again “I wish for your friendship, Yume. I want to see you grow and learn, to talk with you late into the night about a great many things, and that we may see each other again, even after every person here has parted ways!” Zeal’s voice rose and quavered. She was crying now, and the tears seemed to roll effortlessly down her cheeks. “I know it’s selfish, to ask such a thing of a goddess, but the only thing of value to me in this tourney is the knowledge I have gained…and…and…”

“Zeal…truly, you have discovered a great strength within yourself” Yume turned to face Zeal and threw her hands around the Queen’s waist in an embrace. “I’m afraid to say that I cannot grant your wish for my friendship…” She could feel the Queen’s figure shaking. “That is because it would be meaningless to grant a wish which has already been made manifest.” She could feel Zeal’s arms tighten their embrace.

“Yume….thank you….for everything” Zeal stood, holding the petite goddess close. “This will be something…I always remember…” She felt herself fading away; the feeling of waking up from a dream. Only, she knew it was not a dream she was phasing out of.

“Then…thank you, Queen. Without you, even I might have been lost…” Yume whispered. Zeal’s heart felt alight as she faded away, back to 12,003 B.C. The days to come would surely seem dull now, in comparison… Everything became light, and Zeal felt as if she was ascending toward the sky.

My dream…..will be for you. Never forget…always remember…

--------------------

-- 3 Weeks Later -

“Achoo!” Zeal sneezed into her handkerchief as she willed her stovetop to heat up. It had been no small feat, salvaging the Sunstone from the sunken Zeal, but it had surely been worth it, given all the applications she and Doreen had already put its energy toward - such as heating the stove on a cold day to make a hot cup of tea. And her personal retrieval operation of it only days after she had returned had given her time to be alone and to think, and to take her mind off the emptiness in her heart. She had sometimes wondered if perhaps Mia was teaching a magic class at that very moment, or whether Driscoll had won his war. The bottom of the ocean was a cold place, but fortunately, it was also relatively inaccessible to those without the magic to breathe water. She had stayed there for almost two weeks, but at least the glowing white ball was hers.

“Now…where did I put that kettle?” Zeal turned about to find Doreen holding the kettle full of water. “Ah, thank you Doreen. Let me just take that there….” She received the kettle from the mischievous spirit and put it on the plate to heat up. Today would be her second full day back, and if there was one thing that she had noticed, it was that the weather had been nicer than normal as of late. Well, maybe it just seems like that after I spent two weeks under the ocean… she thought. Either way, Zeal had an affinity for a good cup of tea; it seemed to help her unwind like nothing else, and was especially potent in that respect when combined with a good book.

Zeal exited the kitchen and perused her bookshelf, looking for her next reading project. “I think I’ve had enough of magic and time/space travel for a while” she sighed as she passed her science and magic section. A book in the next bookcase caught her eye, however. “’The Epic of Gilgamesh’….heh…I loved this tale as a girl! A mighty warrior king, outcast from his kingdom….whaaa! Hyaaa!” She made sword-slicing motions with her arm, fencing against imaginary foes. Pulling the book from the shelf, she placed it on the stand next to her favorite reading chair, then returned to the kitchen to find her water boiling. “That sunstone sure is convenient!” Zeal motioned her hand downward, and the plate on which the steaming kettle rested grew dark once more. “I think I’ll go with…..special blend seventeen today, ‘Fragrant Memory’.” She took two teabags and set them each in an earthenware cup, proceeding to pour the boiling water over them.

A knock sounded at the door, ever so slightly, but audible. “Doreen, would you be so kind as to get that while I finish preparing the tea here?” She motioned in the general direction of the house’s front door with her head. Doreen nodded and headed off to the front room to attend to the door. Zeal looked out of her kitchen window; snow fell lightly in a slight breeze, causing the flakes to dance and whirl about. Mmm…this tea smells positively wonderful! She stirred both cups with a small spoon, listening for Doreen.

“I think it’s for you” was the reply Zeal heard from the kitchen.

“Of all the times, right when I’m about to sit down for a cup of tea and a good book once again…” She set the spoon down and made her way to the front of the house. It was well that she hadn’t decided to carry the tea, for she surely would have dropped it at what she saw.
“Yume!” Zeal ran and threw her arms around the goddess at her door. She was dressed in a purple coat that looked somewhat big for her, accessorized by a fluffy pair of lavender earmuffs.

“Ah..ah…hey there, Queen Zeal!” Yume grinned broadly. “I was in the area, and I decided to pay a good friend a visit.”

“What are you just standing there for? Come inside, come inside! There’s so much to talk about; I want to hear everything! Oh, Doreen, could you pour one more cup of tea? Another friend is in our midst, and we must give hospitability! Oh, can I take your coat for you?” Zeal received Yume’s purple coat and hung it upon the robe-rack in the entryway.

“I’m glad I could come…I’d like to have a ‘conversation late into the night’, like you talked about. It sounds fun.” Yume slipped off her boots and stepped into a previously unseen pair of purple slippers.

“That we shall, that we shall!” Zeal had not expected it at all when she woke up, nor had she for the time she had been back, but there she was, standing right there in her house, with fuzzy purple earmuffs and a shy smile on her face. “Come, I want to hear all about what you’ve been doing…..”

The snow blew outside on August 16, 2003 B.C., just as it had done every day for countless years and centuries before it. In one house, however, there seemed a little extra warmth, for the light of friendship glowed there, testament to the power of a dream.

--------------------

And so the role of Queen Zeal in the sixth great Celestial Gathering of Chosen Ones has ended. Sometimes, in anime, sad endings get to me the most, but in this case, I had to give it a happy outcome. I hope everyone enjoyed Zeal in the tourney, and perhaps look at her a bit differently when you play Chrono Trigger again (I know I will). This is tenken, and thank you for reading!

Rydia could feel some stares, and felt ehr face flushing. Of all the times and places...

She opened her mouth to say soemthing, yet nothing came out. Her cheeks reddened worse then. She cleared her throat and smiled. "Y-yes Edge, I will marry you..."

Boy, everyone is going to be surprised when we get back...! I just hope I don't regret this... .... nah, I couldn't. Not after all we've been through.

------------
Gah.... My brain is so fried. ^^; Ex, feel free to elaborate. As for that small something... I can't think right now. :P

The Fallen Dragon

*OOC* I'll be putting quotes in here that didn't actually happen. Why? Because I need them, that's why!

Daigojhi: You asked for it, you got it! Of course, you'll have to wait until RT2 for more!
-----

How long have I been here? The Fiend of Time kept spinning in the Void, not knowing how long he had been there. Time meant nothing, really, as the Void knew no time.

Visions of agony and despair crossed over Chaos's mind, over and over and over again. I bet, and I lost. Now I shall remain in this place forever, with only my rage to keep my sanity intact.

Chaos closed his eyes, giving himself up to memories...
---

"MY BARREL!" One small girl had shouted, raging at the loss of her possessions. Though at first it appeared to be her life's quest, the truth was far deeper. She wanted to fulfill her life's dream.

"I'm a treasure hunter!" A man, constantly seeking to avoid the obvious, seeking to ease his inner pain with an outside legality.

"I shall live, and Rydia and I will live happily together!" A ninja, seeking desperately to avoid the obvious truth: He would die, and all the happiness of his life would be for nothing.

"I may be small, but I'll never surrender, kupo!" An insignificant creature, standing against the Golden Demon when all others had run away. The fool was ever seeking to prove itself to others, even when outclassed.

"My wanzer is named after Karen." The pain of a pilot, missing something in his life.

"The humans destroyed everything: my home, my friends, my world. I shall destroy them for that!" A demi-human, using vengeance as the catalyst of his existence.

"Keep your sword ready, fiend. We shall meet again." Hope? What hope did Chaos have, forever stuck in the Void?

"You have lost, Chaos. You shall never return here, until your Darkness surrounds the entire world!" Buhamat, his eternal foe. No matter how hard Chaos tried, he had been unable to banish the memory of his defeat at Buhamat's hands. Is that my dream? To avenge my losses? No... That cannot be it. But, if it is Slash's dream to avenge his losses, then can mine be the same?

"You are nothing more than a monster, and a demon!" Fitting words, coming from the White Dragon. Why did he say such things to Chaos, when the same could be said of it?

"These mortals define their existence through suffering and despair. And yet, these things are not what pleases them. Chaos, our dreams are different than theirs. They feel the constraints of time, and wish to do as much as possible with what resources they were given." Zoma had said these words, attempting to make Chaos see what the Alliance of Darkness was facing. Foolishly, Chaos had ignored his warnings.

"Friendships made, no attention paid to parting. But somewhere in the mind, everyone knows that one day, even those closest to them will be separated from them. It’s the sad reality….” The words of Yume filled Chaos's ears, even in the Void. The humans wish to do as much as possible, even knowing its futility? Why do they struggle so?

"But if I truly desired it, I could see any of them at my whim." No, Yume. You could never see me, never again. I am forced to remain here, until my very mind rots and my spirit wishes, begs for death.

"A dream grand and wonderful, beyond the confines of yourself. I think that is why so many cultures, including my own, place so much importance on dreams. Even if one understands themselves completely, a dream is a venture into the unknown, the recesses of their mind or the inspiration of supernatural forces. A dream is more than our human existence." At last! I am beginning to understand! Mortals fight for the completion of their dreams, no matter how far away they may appear. And, of course, if they cannot complete the dream for themselves, then they will try to prepare it for their children.

Therefore, the greatest evil to them must be the extinguishing of dreams. That is why they hated the Void, and me. Both of us wished to destroy dreams, to bring all living things into our deadly embrace. And yet, my dreams struck a chord with theirs. They would not finish me, for they could tell, somehow, that I had dreams of my own, that I was attempting to fulfill. If only I had known this earlier...

Though it may take me years, centuries of time, I shall return. My vengeance shall be complete, no matter the cost. My dream shall be completed, though it cost all of creation theirs!

Suddenly, a small glimmer of peace entered Chaos's heart. A vision of hot drinks, simple comfort, and long talks with trusted friends came into his mind. Chaos looked in wonder at this new vision. Could this be what Queen Zeal was referring to? It looks... peaceful...

Suddenly, the vision slammed shut, leaving Chaos in the Void, more acute of its nothingness.

"Uwee-hehehehehe!" The joker's voice sounded across the Void, bringing Chaos to his knees. Even he found a way to complete his dreams. Why have I failed in everything?

One last voice sounded. A sound of shuffling cards entered the Void, undaunted by the lack of anything else. "Even you have a chance of redemption, Chaos. Though you may not be able to see it, there is a chance. It is in the cards, friend."

---
THE FOOL! I am Chaos, the Master of Time! No one has ever referred to me as a friend!

The Queen's vision again entered his mind, reminding Chaos of what 'friendship' could be.

Suddenly, the Fiend lashed out, casting spells and physically attacking anything his imagination conjured up. When the visions finally faded, Chaos looked around. A single tear fell through the Void, swallowed up by its emptiness.
-----

*OOC* And that's it for Chaos. As I have said before, many thanks to everyone that made this tournament possible and enjoyable.

Soujiro Seta, I really like your post. I hope to see you in RT2.

Cardboard Box Ninja

Hey, Min, you know you were asking for it. Er...don't ask me why, but...hey, it's Edge we're talking about. Uh...please don't kill me. Did I mention it's my birthday?

************

"Well gosh, Ryd, I was expecting a little more. I mean, if you don't want to..." Edge started to stand, a solemn expression on his face. The ring drifted toward his pocket.

"Wait!" Rydia exclaimed. "No, I...I do, Edge! I...just...why now? Why here? I mean, you could have..."

"Because," the ninja said as he cupped her cheek in his empty hand, "You look absolutely adorable in that shade of red..."

A questioning look mixed with Rydia's embarrassment for a moment, and then the girl realized that Edge was referring to her beat-red face.

Rydia's eyes narrowed in what Edge hoped was amusement more than anything, but she became expressionless before the King could prepare a defense for the likely onslaught. Edge waited, hoping that certain death wasn't preparing to pounce.

"Well, then," Rydia said after what seemed like an eternity, "perhaps you would not mind a few more scars decorationg your face for the wedding?"

Edge swallowed. Twice. What have I gotten myself into? Ah well, she's probably thinking the same thing.

"Yes, Edge, I'll marry you."

Trying to hide a grin of relief, Edge slipped the ring onto the young summoner's finger, then stood, kissing her hand gently.

"Now, my love, would you mind if we made our wishes now?" he asked. I know exactly what I want to wish for, he thought wryly, looking over his shoulder at Yume and the few remaining participants. I hope she wasn't worried about what they'd say back at home. If not then, she will be in a minute...

************

Next part in a bit...

San Draco: It gladdens me to know you enjoyed the story. Even if I did go overboard on the effusive emotion of it...

Lest I forget to tip my hat and pay my respects, your Chaos ruled. I don't know that I've ever read a character as outright evil as him. Here's hoping he arises from the void in time for RT2 sign-ups!

That way, perhaps Garland can finally have revenge on the forest imps! XD

WANZER!

Oro.. happy bathday Ex :P

And... nah. I could go into why the Wanzer isn't named after Karen as such, but... nah. I won't.

Not worth it, really. Driscoll's story is over. May he take his place in the vaults of time, with Magus, Serge, Quistis, Karsh and Ghaleon.

It's a funny old world, really. All these powers, and the bog-standard soldier comes through. He was a real challenge to write, and I still don't think i did him well enough, but hey, you folks seem to think so. Who needs magic? Well, apart from a magic sword, but it was Diablo 2. What can I say? :P

Later y'all.

Most of the contestants had already returned home, and Locke decided it was time for himself to leave as well. He said his final goodbyes and walked over to where Yume was standing. "Lady Yume, I am ready to return home," he said, a note of sadness in his voice. Though he'd spent most of the past week endlessly fighting these people, he knew he was going to miss them.

"Very well. Good bye Locke, I wish you luck with whatever you decide to do," Yume responded.

"Same to you," Locke told the goddess as he began fading from view, "Thanks for everything Yume... Good bye."

Suddenly, Locke found himself back in Rachel's house. Though a week ago he was bored out of his mind here, he couldn't begin to describe how happy he was to be back. "Wow, it feels like years since I left this place," Locke thought to himself, "I don't even remember what day it is."

Feeling a rumble in his stomach, and realizing he didn't have much else to do, Locke decided to try out the hot dogs Yume had given him. Following the instructions he began boiling up a pot of water on the stove. As he was cooking, his mind wondered back to the events of the tournament. Though he was glad to be back, he knew he'd never forget those days.

Locke sat at the table idly looking at the flower Bowser had given to him and wondering what it was for. When the hot dogs were just about ready, Locke heard a knock on the door. "Who could that be?" he thought to himself as he walked over to the door. After unlatching it, he swung the door open. Standing on the other side was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

"Celes!" Locke exclaimed, joy on his face.

"Did you miss..." her words were quickly interupted as Locke tightly embraced her. Surprise in her voice, she said, "Locke, I was only gone for a couple of weeks."

"They were the longest couple weeks of my life," Locke said, a tear in his eye.

Blushing, Celes looked down at Locke's hands. "Is that for me?" she asked, plucking the flower away from Locke. The instant she touched it, however, it disappeared. "Hey, where'd it go?"

"I have no idea," Locke responded.

Suddenly, Celes noticed the wonderful smell filling the room. "Locke," she asked, "are you cooking something?"

"Oh yeah, you've got to try these," Locke said, taking the two hot dogs out of the pot and sticking them onto buns. Handing one to Celes, he said, "Go on, tell me that isn't the best thing you've ever tasted."

Taking a few bites, Celes said, "Wow, these are good! What's in them?"

"Uh... never mind," Locke said, "I was thinking about opening up my own Inn right here in Kohlingen. I could sell them there. 'Locke Cole Brand Hot Dogs'. What do you think?"

Celes laughed, "I think you could do a little better with the name."

"Well," Locke said, his heart pounding. He couldn't believe what he was about to say, "How about 'Locke & Celes Cole Brand Hot Dogs."

Celes looked at him, an expression of shock on her face, "Is that a... proposal?"

Taking her into his arms, Locke said, "This is for your ears only."

---------------------------------------

*Three months later*

The Moogle Cafe was filled with laughter as the thirteen old friends who had long ago joined together to save the world celebrated the night away.

"Hey Mog, toss me another Merton Dew, would you?" Locke asked.

"Coming right up, kupo!" Mog responded, bringing his friend another drink.

"Thanks for letting us hold the wedding here," Locke said to the moogle.

"No problem, kupo!" Mog responded, "We needed a good excuse to get the old gang back together anyway."

"Yeah, well you'll have to come over to my place one day," Locke said, "You still haven't tried one of my hot dogs, have you?"

"I'm probably the only one who knows what's actually in them," the moogle laughed, "By the way Locke, how did you get those burn marks on your face?"

Locke let out a laugh, "It's a long story."

-------------------------------------

Well, that's the last post for me. I had a lot of fun writing, and I hope I was able to at least make a few of you laugh. It's been fun everybody, hope you all decide to join in the next one.

The Second Gunman

Ito glanced about at the dwindling number of competitors. Many had already left, and the few that were remaining seemed unwilling to abandon their new friendships or return to whatever fate awaited them.

As for me... I die in an hour. Remaining here will only delay the inevitable.

Standing from his seat against a column, he dropped his dirty paper plate off into the darkness. "A natural garbage disposal, I suppose."

Moving a little slowly, Ito moved towards the sparkling portal. Yume smiled as he approached. "Ready to go, Ito?"

"I suppose."

"Got everything?"

Ito suddenly patted himself down. "My machine gun... I think I left it in the Third Round."

Yume produced his machine gun from behind her back. "Here you are."

"Domo." With a smile and wave, Ito stepped through the portal.

---

"Umm... Hi there."

"Big brother? Is that you, Ito?"

"Yeah, it's me. How's things?"

"Oh, wonderful! You never call much anymore! Mother and Father are still well, and guess what?"

"What?"

"I've been accepted into a cooking school!"

"That's excellent, honey. Hey, I have something for you."

Ito produced the lavender slip of paper and slid it into a slot in the vidphone.

"Here. Bake this and wow those people at that cooking school."

"Oh, thanks, bro! Say, how's work going? you barely say anything about it when you talk to Mom and Dad."

A knock came on the door. "Ogami-san? It's nearly time for the meeting with our client."

Ito turned back to the vidphone. "Listen, sweetie, I gotta go. Just remember. I love you."

"Love you too, big bro! Be careful out there!"

Gloriosa Generosa

Well, here's my last post with Siegfried for RT2! So kick back, put your feet up and turn on some kind of ending music! Dunno, pick something melodramatic. I'm eating a stale frozen Eggo right now to get me started. I don't know how long this'll be, hopefully not as long as Soujiro's! Well,... meet you at the bottom!

====================================

Before you go, you have to use your knife...
"What...?"
Do me this favor.
"I CAN'T!"
Clyde!!!
"I'm sorry..."
Clyde! How dare you!?

Siegfried opened his eyes, taking in the orange sky, filled with warm clouds. It was peaceful in Memoria, but the sight told a tale of a great battle. His vision took his surroundings. Grey. And brown. A sea of stone and debris, all around him. Grey, drab, and lifeless.

From his view he could see the competitors in a crowd. Most of the competitors had already left, but most were talking, laughing, and shelling out last words before they returned to their dimensions. He could clearly see the bonds between each of them.

He pushed away from the crumbled wall he leaned on and made his way to Yume. She looked as if she was already expecting him. They both stood in front of each other in silence. Her garments and his cape danced slightly in the wind, kicking up the dust on the dirty earth. The goddess spoke, "Are you prepared to return to your world, dark one?"

Siegfried's eyes hid beneath the shadow of his dark helmet as he gave his reply, "Yes."

The goddess dove deep into shadow of Siegfried's helmet and asked, "Before you take leave, do you have anything you wish for?"

The dark warrior's eyes trailed off into the dusty earth, as if in deep thought. He strode to his right, his cape and sound of his heavy mail trailing beind him.

"No," he replied.

Yume extended her hand, to block Siegfried's way. The swordsman's hidden face gave a puzzled look at the goddess wondered what could she want other than his decision. She smirked as the breeze carried her words.

"He is still alive."

Siegfried's eyes widened in shock as he realized what Yume was talking about. He looked at Yume, in suprise. She calmly looked ahead and continued.

"What are memories? They are uplifting, and sometimes hurt us. Some people whilst away their bad memories, hoping they won't come back to haunt us. For those left behind are forced into agony and bondage. Killing themselves... their emotions."

Siegfried's eyes trailed off into the distance. Yume looked at Siegfried, her eyes dove into his eyes which hid beneath the dark shadow of his helmet.

"He is waiting for you... In the shade, behind the darkness... Past your killed emotions, farther from your buried past.... and through the shadows."

Siegfried faded away from Memoria, and he was engulfed in darkness again. nd felt a presence that had long ago been forgotten.

Clyde pulled his black chocobo up alongside the train. On the other side of the train, he knew, Baram was doing the same. He lined his chocobo up with the break in the railing. At the last moment, he leapt off the large bird, and landed on the train, his brown cloak flying out behind him. Doma Railway systems won't know what hit 'em.. He quickly picked the lock on the door, and entered the first of the rear cars. He heard Baram board the train behind him. He waited a moment for the other man.

Baram grinned. "This'll be our first big break. Once we snag this loot, everyone'll know 'bout us."

Clyde nodded. "Why not talk a little louder, huh? It's a wonder they don't know we're comin' with all the racket yer making," he said, his voice a low whisper.

"Yeah yeah...the loot's supposed to be in a guarded car, should be three cars after this one. After we pass this one, we can climb to the roof. From there we can get on top of the car with the loot and take 'em from above," Baram said, his voice slightly lower this time.

Clyde nodded, then made his way to the front of the car. He slowly slid the door open, and stepped onto the small bridge that crossed the couplings. After crossing it, he grabbed ahold of the ladder on the back of the next car, and slowly made his way to the top. Keeping low, he made his way over the next few cars, followed by Baram. The two stopped next to a large square vent on top of the treasure car. Clyde looked down through the slits of the vent. Two armed guards stood inside, sitting on either side of a large treasure chest. With a flick of his wrist, a small set of tools slid into the palm of Clyde's hand. He flipped through them until he found a tiny screwdriver, and began working at the screws that held the vent in place. After removing the screws, he slowly took the vent off, and tossed it over the edge of the train. He looked to Baram, who gave a thumbs-ups sign. Clyde nodded, and slipped into the vent, diving down on top of one guard, while Baram came down on the other.

After checking to make sure the guards were knocked out, Baram hurried to the chest. He quickly picked the lock, which sprung open with an audible click. His eyes grew wide at the sight of the shimmering gold. "Damn!...we've hit the mother load!" he said in a hoarse whisper.

"You ain't kiddin'!" Clyde replied.

The two quickly began filling large sacks with the gold. Then, lugging the sacks over their shoulders, the duo made their way to the back of the train. Clyde gave a sharp whistle, and two black chocobos rushed up alongside the train. Clyde leapt onto one, while Baram got on the other.

The two stopped in the woods just south of the railway. They got off their chocobos, and sent them off. Baram wandered over to Clyde, grinning ecstaticly. "Yahoooo! We did it Clyde!"

Clyde jumped up in the air and spun around. "A million gold pieces! What a blast! I love this!"

Baram grinned. "Guess it's time to change our name...

Clyde looked at Baram, puzzled, eyebrow arched slightly. "Our name?"

Baram nodded. "We need something more...appropriate.

"Such as..?"

Baram looked up at the night sky, thinking silently. "...Shadow! Not bad, huh?"

Clyde let this roll through his mind. "Hmm...Great train robbers of the century...Shadow..? Hmm...I like it!"

A tear was lost in the dark shadows of the dark swordsman's helmet.

He opened his eyes and took white mist, the howling cries of the unknown surrounded him. He was in the cold darkness. It was silent, dead silent. The silence was broken from a loud whistle. A familiar whistle.

"The Phantom Train?" Siegfried whispered. His breath became white mist in the cold. He realized he was in the Phantom Forest... Near the place where...

Siegfried broke into a run, through the blinding fog of the Phantom Forest. This area was all too familiar to him on that day many years ago. A figure appeared before him!

*SLASH*

His blade met the monster, who dissolved into the air, back into the darkness. More appeared!

*SLASH* *SLASH*

Pieces of the flesh lay on the ground and vanished back to the shadows. The dark swordsman stopped.

It was quiet around him, but the whistle of the Phantom Train was faint. Leaves fluttered down to the dark earth, also touching the his armor and cape. Trees loomed over him like dark silent stentinels. Particularly the large one ahead of him.

He put his massive blade back into his sheath and made his way towards the large ebony oak and placed tore away the rotting wood at the base. Familiar leaves flew as he put them aside. A wooden chest was lodged between the thick roots of the great towering sentry. Siegfried pulls out the heavy chest and dusts off the old spider webs and age's dust.

The dark warrior's blade tore at the rusty lock. It snapped away with a metallic thunk. The chest opened, after a long time hiding. The one million gold pieces shone through the darkness, and memories flowed back into Siegfried's mind as he chipped words on the side of the bark of the great tree with a dagger that Clyde had left behind in the chest.

Where were you when I died?
All I know is
I couldn't see your face
from where I lay.

We were such good friends,
I waited for your answer.
You stayed quiet,
and all I could hear was the cold wind.

I kept reaching for your hand,
but it wasn't there.
Someone else's was, instead;
the fingers of death,
its long claws reaching for my soul.
I tried to get stand,
but I couldn't move..

Where were you?
Right there?
In another town?
In another world?
Did you stand there
and waited until it was too late?

I wanted one more sight of you
before I died.
One good laugh.
A friendly talk.
One last goodbye.

I wait for you again -
in the shade,
behind the darkness.
I can feel you somewhere nearby,
and someday I know
you'll find your way to me -
past your killed emotions,
farther from your buried past,
and through the shadows.

===================================

Wow, that took... 3 hours! Especially long with that poem at the end! Boy am I stoned! Well, it's been great everybody. You can hope for Siggy to be back in RT2 or FFOS7, or whatever you call it! (Not Siegfried the imposter, of course!)

As Siegfried would say, "Ta-ta!"

"I am Siegfried, world's greatest swordsman!"

"I am the man who has never bled or cry,... The first disciple of Jenova,... Wielding the blood rusted blade that had been taken from the light of good to the darkness of evil... I am the master of the black relic and was born to lead the world to total damnation... I am god! I am Sephiroth!

Duran looked up to Memoria's skies in wonder. He had visited different worlds, dimensions that he had no clue existed ever since he accepted this offer of a tournament. And it seemed that everything he had done here was part of a full circle. He and Koren reconciled, and the Crimson Wizard had left for Althena Kingdom once again. He had gotten his one impeteous wish already; to defeat Koren by gaining the strength to do so. And now... he would soon know what it must feel to be a Knight of Gold in his Majesty's employ; for he was going to return home as well, right away.

But what of Yume's favor?

He knew what to do with that....

*******

Yume looked up as Duran approached the young goddess with a noble and confident air, albeit graceful; a very stark contrast to the old Duran she knew, who was good-hearted but wayward and inexperienced. He bowed before the Eternal Saint and his progeny, then paitently awaited her to open the conversation. Yume dragged the words out a bit, just out of a flair of dramatic emphasis.

"I take it... that you have chosen a favor for me to grant of you!"

Duran nodded slowly, although there was a michevious twinkle in his eye. "That I have."

"And what, pray tell, might be this warrior's request?"

"I request, Yume, that you kneel at one knee before me at this moment."

Everyone, including Yume, gave Duran a rather bewildered stare, but Saint had the beginnings of a smile starting to creep up on his face. At this, Duran turned to the Eternal.

"You too, Saint."

One still grinning, the other still confused, Saint and Yume both took a knee at Duran's feet, bowing their heads. At this, Duran unsheathed his broadsword, holding it up as it caught the rays of the sunlight, glowing like a blade of legendary import. He brought it's flat side down onto Yume's head gently, then her left shoulder, then her right, speaking with a commanding tone as he did so.

"By right of honor, and nobility proven, Yume of the Creator, I dub thee: Lady Yume, of the Kingdom of Forcena!"

Everyone let out a half-hearted cheer at first, which exploded into wild applause and yelling as Duran bade her rise. Holding his sword to hischest tightly, he whispered in her ear, "I hope that one day you can learn what resides in your own heart, instead of unlocking others."

Yume turned a tinge of red at that statement. The Cavalier of Forcena gave her an encouraging wink and turned to knight Saint, who had already gotten the general idea.

"By true sacrifice in the heart of danger! For preserverance that outlasted Death itself! For possession of the Lion's Heart, Saint of the Eternals, I dub thee: Sir Saint, the Knight of Gold, of the kingdom of Forcena!"

However loud the crowd of remaining contestants were before, paled in comparison to the racous explosion of cheers that were heard now. Saint scratched his head, murmuring that he didn't do all that much when Duran took his hand and shook it.

"Take good care of the Lady, Sir Saint. The Knight of Gold is the highest recognition my kingdom can offer to anyone. And if either of you two decides to drop by in the future, I will ensure that we will have a royal feast to remember in your honor!"

Duran sheathed his battle-worn blade with a fluorish, walking away from the two while giving a behind-wave as he slowly vanished.

"Until our paths cross again...."

***********

Daybreak awoke him. Feeling the fresh mountain air fill his lungs, Duran got up from his crevice in the Molbear Highlands, and gave a good stretch out of himself, unsheathing his sword one last time as he did so.

From his vantage point, he could see Forcena Castle, rising like a monument, a stronghold against the evil-hearted and the arrogant. His home, where his aunt, sister, and the King awaited his return.

And home had never looked so good.

Well, to those who wrote with/fought/aided my character, it's been a pleasure working with all of you. My thanks for putting up with crazy-to-insufferable lil' Duran, and I hope to see you at the next Rurouni Taikai. I almost got to the top this time, but I plan to go for the win in April!

Good game, everyone, and good luck to you all in whatever obstacles life may carry for ya.

Ride ze shoopuf?

And now, its time for Bowser to return home...

-----------------------------------------

"Its almost time to go, Bowser."

"I know, Yume."

"You haven't told me what you want yet."

"Ehhhh...." Bowser sighed, "I don't really know what I want to tell you the truth. I've already gained so much from this trip. I learned of the wonders of hot dogs, the power of love, and I even got this nifty stealth camouflage thingy in Alaska."

"Well, if it is your desire, I can send you back without a wish. But you may never get this chance again." Yume told the Koopa King.

"I don't want to give up this chance..."

"Then don't. Wish for something!" Yume encouraged.

"Hmmm...I know what I want Yume."

"I'm dying to know..." Yume cackled.

"I want...to put an end to this rivalry between myself and the Mario brothers. I've finally realized that Peach is not interested in me...I see no reason for us to continue our squabbles."

"I see Bowser. Very well, when you return to the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and Luigi will not fight you, nor will you fight them, lest you break this wish's bond." Yume declared.

"Um, one more thing Yume, I want to know something."

"What is it?"

"When you said earlier that you knew that there was someone for me...were you saying that just being optimistic, or were you saying that matter-of-factly, as the Daughter of the Creator?"

"Ha ha..." Yume laughed, "Bowser, you are a softie to the end."

"Well?"

"That Bowser, is up to you. I may be the Daughter of the Creator, but I cannot alter your fate. That is up to you. Now, its time to say farewell."

Yume opened up a large portal, which through Bowser could see the Mushroom Kingdom waiting for him on the other side.

"Farewell Bowser. Take care of yourself."

"No, don't cry! Don't let her see you like this Bowser! You don't want her to think you are a crybaby too--huh???"

Yume had given Bowser a large hug, shaking the thoughts of the Koopa King momentarily.

"I will miss you, Bowser."

"Uh...well...I....yeah, miss you too Yume. Thank you."

And with that, Bowser walked into the portal, ready to begin his new life in the Mushroom Kingdom. And yes ladies, he IS single.

-----------------------------------------------

And thus, Bowser's story ends....at least until next tournament! Mwahahaha! The SMRPG mafia will return!

Anoat: Mafia? This isn't a Mafia. You're just a simple turtle with a network of friends. [/Godfather parody]

Really good endings, everyone. I hope to see you all in RT2. Thanks, Krizak, for sponsoring, especially in the card game between myself and Daigojhi. (Can't believe I forgot to thank you! )

I'm not sure whether or not I'll be sponsoring Chaos next time, though. Being evil is all well and good, but I wonder what it's like to play as a semi-good guy. Hmm...

... ... ... What?

OOC: Ooooh...I missed practically all of the final round. Well, I'm sick with the flu right now, and bored, so what better time is there to write? I wanna give out some thanks first, though...

Luna: This one's obvious. ^^;; Thanks for being my sorta "partner" through this, and putting up with me. The Love Materia's definitely one thing about this tournament I'm positive I won't soon forget. XDD

Tenshi Kain: I loved what you did throughout the whole tournament. Really. And thanks for using Mia when I wasn't here. Heheh, did you notice that slash seems to look better in CC? Well, just slightly, but...

Krizak: For hosting this tournament. Duh. =P

The Entire Dark Alliance: You've probably gone father than any of the other dark/shadows in this tournament so far, and you kicked off a heck of a lot of action scenes.

Anoat: For starting the Love Materia thing, and for making a lot of hilarious posts.

Daig and Dareon: Your posts were some of the funniest in this tournament. I don't know what more I can say.

Min, Ex, Kyo: Min and Ex, you carried out the "romance" of this tournament. XD Kyo, you did amazing action scenes with Duran...arg, now I really want to play SD3. Unfortunately, when my hardrive was wiped, I lost the ROM...grrr...

Ans Soujiro Seta, geez, you should've been a sponsor! Your story mixed almost a bit of everything--humor, action, drama...let's just say you did an amazing job. ^^

And lastly...major congrats to Baka.

Mia silently watched the people leave Memoria after talking to Yume.

That blue-skinned swordsman, Slash--he was harsh on himself, but inside, he really wasn't so bad. He'd even helped her out when she needed healing, and she hadn't exactly done anything to make him think of her as a friend. After he left though, she realized, she had made a friend in him, however platonic that friendship may have been. But she'd never see him again. They came from different worlds.

That man with all the odd machines that fired ammunition and all the "grenades," as he called them, who had accepted punch from her, had left as well. Mia had smiled when she'd heard his request to Yume--one of the weapons that he's left behind in one of the rounds. She hoped even he had found what he was looking for.

Lemina, her relative from the future. To think...she'd been a great Guildmaster. Her. Mia Ausa. And despite Lemina's money-loving, barrel-hugging, outspoken ways, Mia had made a connection with her as if she were her own sister. Which she kind of was. Related to her, anyways. Her eyes had shined with tears when she'd left her her home...her Vane. Mia knew that some were tears of happiness, but others were tears of sorrow. She gotten attached to Lemina in the time she was here as well--how could someone go through with that and not be?

But now she was by herself. It was her turn to make a wish. To tell Yume. And to...go.

Say goodbye.

Looking at the skies of Memoria, Mia pondered.

What do I want?

To rebuild Vane...that's why I came here.

But...

...I would've got it on a silly wish. That's not how I want to be remembered. When people think of me in the future, I want them to think of me as a proud Guilmaster, one of the finest, that helped restore the once fallen Magic Guild to it's glory with her efforts. The way Lemina thought of me.

And if I ask Yume to retore Vane...I'd be changing the future. Lemina said that I wasn't able to restore Vane, but my efforts had helped so much. What would happen if I just changed all that and restored Vane? How would the future be changed?

...But what if this was meant to happen?

Time paradoxes are this way. You'll never know if it was "meant to be" or not.

I guess...you can't think too far into the future. The same way you can't live in the past.

You have to think in the present. What do I want to do here? Now?

I don't want to forget this. I never want to forget this. This tournament has been such a great experience for me that I'll never forget it. It gave me hope, it gave me strength, and if I hadn't been brought here, I would've continued feeling as if I could never make a difference and restore Vane.

I...know.

"...Yume..."

"Mia." The goddess graced her with a smile. "Have you made your decision?"

"Yes," she stated.

"Ask, and you shall recieve."

"All my life I've been running. Running from responsibility. Running from...everything. But I understand now. Truly. You've...you've helped me see, Yume. And I...don't want to forget this."

Yume's face seemed to soften.

"Mia, don't doubt yourself. We all do at one point or another, but we have to have confidence in ourselves." She paused. "And from what I understand, you're going to be looked back on as quite a compitant Guildmaster, as I trust your encounters with Miss Lemina have proved to you..."

"I...thank you, Yume," she murmured, blushing slightly. "But I...I owe this to you."

"And what will be your wish, Mia?"

"I...don't want to forget. If I ever lose hope, I want to remember. Is there something...I can have...to remember this by? Anything would be fine..."

Yume looked around for a minute, and then at Saint. then she produced a purple orb from her pocket, eyes twinkling.

"This orb was left behind in a certain round, forgotten. I understand that you have a few...memories with it, so I shall grant it to you, to remember. And I daresay that you won't do anything insane as a result of the effects...I've made sure of that."

Mia began to laugh, as did Yume.

"Thanks again..." she whispered, accepting the stone.

Then, looking back one last time, Mia stepped into the portal, and back into her life.

OOC: Well, I supose I should get this wrapped up before the thread is closed or something.

__________

Zio wasn't much on saying goodbyes. Truth to tell, there was nobody he wanted to wish farewell.

The black mage glanced around at all of the departing people. Some laughing, crying, hugging, and for what? To leave each other, to leave an emptiness inside them. To leave within themselves a void. They knew there was nothing they could do to get those people back into their lives, and yet they clung to these meaningless rituals.

He spat. The very sight of everything disgusted him, and despite his best efforts to end it all, he failed. With a sigh, for once he found himself thinking: "Dark Force would not be pleased." Shaking his head, Zio approached Yume.

"Zio," said The Daughter. "Do you have a request? You know I can't grant your greatest desires, but what else is it you want from me?"

"Kill me," the mage stated flatly.

Yume took a step backward, the statement catching her completely off guard. "Kill you? But.. why?"

"It doesn't matter," Zio replied, still unfaultering. "Kill me."

"Zio... I cannot. You know I cannot grant a wish which would alter your reality so greatly..."

"You know I am already dead, Daughter. I failed in this reality and my god will not let me fail in my own. If those who seek to destroy me do not succeed, Dark Force will surely bring me to my doom. Kill me." Almost a demand this time. Zio was unwilling to face his own fate.

"I... I cannot grant this wish, Zio. Please, ask another. What else do you want?"

"Send me home, then. I want nothing. This entire tournament was futile, and you knew it from the start. I desire nothing."

"Very well, Zio. Good bye."

__________

It wasn't long before Zio was back on Motavia. He was in the highest tower of his fort, awaiting the band of would-be heroes to come and stop him. He would not allow them the satisfaction of his defeat. He would not allow anyone -- Gryz, Dark Force, anyone -- to bring him to an end. Nobody that is, but himself.

__________

Hours more passed. Gryz and a company of others made their way up Zio's tower to rescue the android, Demi. As they reached the top of the tower, they entered a room; the floor was stained with a thick, blackened blood. Near the captured android lay a man dressed all in black. A knife was stuck within his chest, dried blood trailing from the wound. Upon the hilt of the knife rested the hand of the man who lay crumpled upon the floor.

No epic struggle took place that day. No fated battle between good and evil. Just the battle of one man over his own existence. A battle which was lost from the start.

Defiant of Time

OOC: I know I never wrote in the story, bu I couldn't resist! Munkwunk, hope you like!
-----------------------

Rune looked around the tower, expecting to see Zio to come lurking out of the shadows at any moment.
But his eyes were immediatly drawn to the two mages knelt on the floor. They seemed to be mediatating, praying infront of something.
"Chaz!" Shouted Rune, "Stop what ever they're doing!"
As Rune shouted the words the two mages looked up, and dashed to the edges, trying to find an escape. One hurled a blast of fire at Chaz who shrugged it off before his crosscut tore the weakened servent appart. The second fell to the floor clutching his throat as Gryz axe skimmed it, opening the windpipe. One more hack and the head bounced.
Rune however saw none of it. He was kneeling in the place the mages were knelt, before the crimson stained corpse of Zio, the black mage.
"Rune? Rune, what's happened?" Asked Chaz, wiping his blade on the torn cloak of his victim.
"Something that shouldn't have. I can sense massive tremors in reality here. Something, or someone, as altered our reality very recently. I don't think we'll ever find out who or what did it, but they've saved us a task."
Rune stood up, "Come on, we have to save Demi, quickly"
The party trooped out, heading to the rooms further down the back of the turret which was to be Zio's tomb.
As Rune left he turned around to stare one last time at the black mage

Robbed of ones destiny. Not even I would have done that to you Zio. Burnt you, cut you, killed you, yes... but to be robbed of your destiny? Even if it was to be killed by my magic it would have been better than that which you have received. Hmph, may your master welcome you with open arms.

"Ha! What is this I feel? Sorrow?" Chuckled Rune loudly... "Sometimes I surprise even myself.

And with that Rune left, heading towards the next chapter of his own story.

The long battle is over,
We were able to free ourselves from the terrible curse of yore.
To the souls of those who sacrificed
their lives for Algol
sleep in peace.

From age to age...
As long as memories last...
We will not forget the sacrifices that have been made.

******** and at the end … ********

Once only Yume and a handful of others remained a silent figure slipped unnoticed into the Memoria. The Namer cast her watchful eye over that place once more, as she had several days before.

“Yes” her eyes snapped open, “Final battle, I name thee; Seven Years In Memoria

And having completed her fated task, Yuna took off the porcelain mask and fanned her face with it. “Phew, it’s hot under that think” she gasped. “It’s a good thing no one noticed me, I would have been in big trouble if they knew a character from such a recent game was here.”

Suddenly a voice called out, “Hey you!” from somewhere behind her.

With a startled, “Yoinks!” the young summoner vanished back to her own world.

******** and so, with the fourth wall thoroughly demolished, it is over. ********

The Drano fiend

Here's my finale. Late as usual.
_______________________________________________

"Oh! I get it now!" Umaro proclaimed cheerily. Out of all the things the yeti could have asked for, he decided to have Yume answer all of his most difficult questions. From why the sky was blue, to why people always looked at him funny whenever he walked to Mog's cafe. Umaro learned more on that day than he ever had before.

Of course Yume had been driven to wit's end by Umaro's questions, but that's beside the point

"Anything more questions?" The daughter asked, trying to be polite as possible. "Please say no. Please say no. Please say no. Please say no."

"Yup." The sasquatch replied nonchalantly. "Why did...." He stopped. He had been afraid of this answer ever since it first came to his mind. He had always told himself he would ask Mog this question. But every time he started walking to the cafe he turned back, fearing the truth would ruin how he thought of his longtime friend. But he couldn't keep hiding from the truth. After a short pause, he spoke.

"Why did Mog and the others kill that clown?" He said finally. He had to know. Were his friends killers? Did they use him to fight in their war? What reason would they have for killing an innocent man. Or was there something he didn't know about?.

Most of the remaining contestants looked in shock at Umaro's question. They all had at least one encounter with Kefka, and none of them were good ones. His friends from his world were dumbfounded by Umaro's question.

"He didn't know?!" Mog thought."He never noticed Kefka's atrocities?! What he did in our world, and in this tournament?! I need to bring him up to speed when we get home, kupo!"

Yume's answer was short, and to the point. "Because he was an evil, homicidal maniac who wanted nothing but to end all life on your world."

"W-W-WHAAAAT?!" Umaro shrieked.

"It's true." Yume continued. "He's commited countless horrors on your world. From wiping out entire countries, to murdering innocent people, even bringing your own world to the brink of destruction."

"Y-you lying!" Umaro shot back.

"No, she isn't Umaro!" Mog cut in, running up to his friend. "He's the reason Kupok and he others are missing. Remember Cyan? Kefka poisoned his city's river, killing virtually everyone there! Including Cyan's wife and son! He's an insufferable bastard who deserve's nothing but the worst!"

"Hey!" Kefka objected. "Just because I like stabbing people repeatedly on a cold day, just to see steam rise from the wounds doesn't make me a bad guy!"

Umaro just stood there, completely shocked by everything he was just told and had heard. After a few seconds, Umaro came to his senses. "You not funny anymore, clown!" He shouted. All he got in reply was a pair of middle fingers pointed at him.

"Umaro..." Yume said softly. "You don't have know everything to know your place in the world. Some people may call you bad things, but you're actually fairly smart for someone your age. Do you understand? Please say yes. Please say yes. Please say yes. Please say yes."

"I... think so."

"That's nice. YES!" Yume replied. She then turned to the small moogle beside the yeti."Mog, I think it's time you started Umaro's tutoring. You've put it of long enough."

"R-right!" Mog said in reply. He wasn't about to say no to the most powerful being in the universe. "If your done with the questions buddy, I think it's time we left."

"Okay." The sasquatch replied. And with that, the two walked over to Locke and Setzer. Yume waved her hand, and a portal opened up. Just before the two demihuman's reached the portal, Umaro turned around. "one more question! What's tutori-OW!"

His question was cut short as Mog jumped up, and grabbed his ear. "You'll find out soon enough, kupo! You've bothered Miss Yume enough already!" The moogle shouted as he drug the yeti by his ear the portal.

----------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, on the other edge of the universe...
----------------------------------------------------------------

"Wait a minute, is this...?"

"Yep."

"Why did you bring us back here?!" Thief asked threateningly. After Black Mage had shouted the spell, the four had found themselves back in the bottom of Garland's dungeon.

"The spell I cast bring's us back to the last point I teleported FROM." B.M. explained. "Which is here. I told you it'd be just as bad."

"Judging by how fresh this popcorn taste, I'd say Black Mage brought us to a point in time just after he teleported us to the sanctuary." Fighter explained in a rare moment of intelligence(this happens once every four years I think.).

"Great. So Garland's going to come in any minute now to begin his torture sessions." Black Mage

"Oh c'mon!" Fighter proclaimed, trying to brightne the mood."We just had the most incredible adventure I, and everyone else here have ever been a part to. I don't think we'll ever be invloved in something like that again!"

"Thank the DM for that!" Red Mage stated. "We spent half a week doing damn near nothing! First, we were stuck in the hanger because there weren't any spare gears. Then, Fighter pointed us in the wrong direction, and we walked all day across artic tundra! No amount of saving throws could prevent the horrible, horrible shrinka-"

"I think we should all put that behind us." Thief ordered. "And don't even start on those little "incidents"in Memoria." Upon slight mention of this, all four "Light Warriors" shuddered simultaneously. "Now, all in favor of never speaking of the tournament again, say I."

"I!"
-------------------
"So, it's agreed. We'll never speak of the tournament again. Right?"

"Uh huh." Garland stated. "The mere concept of memory imps scrare me."

"Right. Now let's go finish off the Light Warriors." Saying that they went down the halls, on their way to the dungeon. But unbeknownst to them, a horrific force was rising. A force of unequalled power and might.

The might of the forest imps....
-----------------------
The End. (Or is it?)
-----------------------
_______________________________________________

And so, my first tourney has come to an end. I'm proud of this because I manage to accomplish four things.

1. I was fairly successful.: On my first try, I made it all the way to round 5(the quarterfinals). While others have made it farther than I have in previous tourneys, at least I know I don't suck at this.

2. I've had a small impact on the tourney.: I scored the record for most A-votes ever recieved in Survivor history. While that's not exactly an honor, I'm not complaining! Plus, what I did to Edge in round 3 has got to be some sort of record(most A-votes inflicted by one person?).

3. I made people laugh.: I've alway's enjoyed humor, and knowing that I managed a few giggles with Umaro and the 8-bit crew make's me know I have some comedic skills.

4. I had fun.: 'Nuff said.

Thank's to everyone involved. To Krizak for putting up with Umaro's unwitting abuse of Yume. To San Draco, for being the only other person to do any 8-bit skits. And everyone who used an R-vote for Umaro or laughed at my attempts at humor. (and if I forgot anyone, feel free to introduce my face to a wood chipper)

So long everyone. I'll be back for RT2.

Nice wrap-up on that story, Lutz.

And Curly, KyleIII also did a bit of an 8-bit thing. In round two, Locke pulled the "Your GP or your HP!" line on Edge. I remember this vividly because it was partially my suggestion.

G'night everybody!
